Chapter 1
Herstory in the Making
Alice was in her room sitting on her bed trying to write a story when all of a sudden there was a knock at her door. Alice put her notebook down on her bed and got up to answer the door. When she opened the door she saw her best friend Hattie Wonka standing on the other side.
ALICE: Hi, Hattie.
HATTIE: Hi, Alice.
ALICE: What brings you here?
HATTIE: I just wanted to visit with my best friend.
Alice sat back down on her bed and Hattie joined her.
HATTIE: So Alice what were you doing before I came over?
ALICE: I was trying to write a story, but I can't think of anything to write about.
HATTIE: What kind of story does it have to be?
ALICE: I could write about anything I want to write about but nothing is coming to mind.
HATTIE: Oh I see.
Just then Hattie looked at Alice's cat Dinah.
HATTIE: I know why not write about Dinah.
ALICE: That sounds like a good idea but I'm not sure what Dinah should do in my story.
HATTIE: Why not make it an interesting story about Dinah?
ALICE: Interesting story?
HATTIE: Yeah.
Alice then looked over at her mirror in the corner.
ALICE: I know if I have to write an interesting story then I should go to an interesting place.
HATTIE: What is this interesting place you're talking about?
ALICE: Wonderland.
HATTIE: Wonderland? I've never been to Wonderland.
ALICE: Would you like to come with me?
HATTIE: How?
ALICE: (as she takes hold of Hattie's hand and stands in front of her mirror) Like this.
A few seconds later both friends have stepped through the mirror and are now in Wonderland.
HATTIE: Alice is this Wonderland?
ALICE: Yes this is Wonderland.
Just then The White Rabbit came rolling around the corner carrying a stack of books and wasn't watching where he was going.
ALICE: Watch out!
The White Rabbit was startled and dropped his books that he was carrying and fell to the ground.
THE WHITE RABBIT: Gracious, child. (as he noticed Hattie) Who's your friend?
ALICE: Mr. Rabbit, this is my best friend Hattie Wonka.
THE WHITE RABBIT: Please to meet you Hattie.
HATTIE: Please to meet you too Rabbit.
ALICE: What are you doing with all of these books.
THE WHITE RABBIT: I'm on my way to the palace to see the Queen you know how Her Majesty likes to read.
ALICE: Oh yes I do.
HATTIE: I didn't think Queens had the time to read books.
THE WHITE RABBIT: Whatever do you mean?
HATTIE: Well aren't Queens always busy giving orders to her subjects?
THE WHITE RABBIT: Well you have a point there? But our Queen likes to take the time to read a good book. Do you like reading books, Hattie?
HATTIE: I do but I never have the time to finish a book that I started because I'm always helping my older brother in his factory.
THE WHITE RABBIT: What does your brother do?
HATTIE: My brother is a candyman. In fact he is the legendary candyman Willy Wonka.
THE WHITE RABBIT: I'm afraid I never heard of him.
HATTIE: Why am I not surprised?
THE WHITE RABBIT: Well I better get these books to the Queen. Bye, Alice. Bye, Hattie.
ALICE: Bye, Mr. Rabbit.
HATTIE: Bye, Rabbit.
ALICE: So Hattie what do you want to do next?
HATTIE: I would like to meet some more of your friends.
ALICE: Great. I can introduce you to The Mad Hatter and The March Hare.
Now Alice and Hattie are walking towards The Mad Hatter's house. When Hattie saw The Mad Hatter she fell in love with him.
HATTIE: Alice who is that in the top hat?
ALICE: Come I'll introduce you.
So Alice took Hattie over to where The Mad Hatter and The March Hare were sitting at the tea table.
THE MAD HATTER: Hi, Alice. Who's your friend?
ALICE: Mr. Hatter, Mr. Hare, this is my best friend Hattie Wonka.
THE MAD HATTER: Nice to meet you Hattie.
THE MARCH HARE: Yes it's nice to meet you.
HATTIE: Nice to meet you two too.
Just then the Dormouse popped out of his teapot.
ALICE: Hattie this is Dormouse. Dormouse this is my best friend Hattie Wonka.
DORMOUSE: Please to meet you Hattie.
HATTIE: Please to meet you too, Dormouse. I must say you're the cutest Dormouse that I have ever seen.
THE MAD HATTER: So Hattie what kind of last name is Wonka?
HATTIE: Well you see my older brother is a candyman.
THE MARCH HARE: Candyman?
HATTIE: Yes a candyman.
THE MAD HATTER: What kind of candy does he make?
HATTIE: Oh all sorts of candies.
THE MARCH HARE: Like what?
HATTIE: Like Wonka Scrumdidilyumptious Bars.
THE MAD HATTER: Scrumdidilywhat bars?
HATTIE: Scrumdidilyumtious bars. He also has taffy.
THE MAD HATTER: What kind of taffy?
HATTIE: Laffy Taffy.
THE MARCH HARE: What is Laffy Taffy?
HATTIE: It's just regular taffy but it has one or two jokes on every wrapper. These jokes come from kids that send them in everyday from around the world and we choose the best ones to put on the wrappers. He also has my favorite Wonka Chocolate Waterfall Bars and the regular oh so popular Wonka Bars.
THE MAD HATTER: So tell us more about your brother?
THE MARCH HARE: Yes we want to hear the story about your brother.
Before Hattie told Hatter and Hare the story about her brother they all sang a song about reading a story.
ALL: (singing) Let's all read a story
Let's all read a story
HATTIE: (singing) I'll read you a story
And then let's make believe

HATTIE: (singing) Wizards

HATTIE: (singing) The magic never ends
A world full of wonder
ALICE: (singing) A king or a clown
HATTIE: (singing) A wolf will be puffing

Let's all read a story
StoryTime is here
StoryTime is here!
Now Hattie is telling The Mad Hatter and The March Hare the story about her brother.
HATTIE: Ok. Here it goes: About six years ago my brother closed his factory because other candymakers were sending in spies dressed as workers to get the secret ingredients for some of Wonka's candies. Than out of nowhere Wonka, my brother told all of his workers to go home and that he was closing his factory for good.
THE MAD HATTER: He stopped selling his candies?
HATTIE: Well only for a year.
THE MARCH HARE: Why did he stop selling his candies for a year?
HATTIE: That is top secret. But all I know it that about five years ago Wonka's factory started running again and more and more delicious candies were coming out than ever before but the gates remained locked and none of the workers got their jobs back.
ALICE: Someone must be helping Mr. Wonka?
HATTIE: Thousands even.
ALICE: But, who? Who are they?
HATTIE: That is the biggest mystery of them all.
THE MAD HATTER: So than what happened?
HATTIE: Well four years ago, Wonka had revealed that he had put five golden tickets into five Wonka bars and the five children that found a golden ticket will get to be escorted through Wonka's factory by Wonka himself.
THE MARCH HARE: Who were the lucky winners?
HATTIE: Their names were: Augustus Gloop from Germany, Veruca Salt from England, Violet Beauregarde, Mike Teavee and Charlie Bucket from the US. In the end Charlie was the one who won the grand prize.
THE MAD HATTER: What was the grand prize?
HATTIE: A year supply of Wonka's chocolate and to live in the factory with the Wonka family.
THE MARCH HARE: What happen to the other four kids?
HATTIE: Well Augustus was the first to go and he fell into Wonka's chocolate river which wasn't suppose to be touched by human hands and then he got sucked up into a tube and was carried to the marshmellow room. Violet Beauregarde was the second one to go and she was turned into a blueberry.
THE MAD HATTER: How did that happen?
HATTIE: Violet is a gum chewer. She chews gum every single day all day. So when Wonka told them about his special three course meal gum and told them that it wasn't quite ready yet, Violet ignored Wonka's warning and when she got to the desert that's when Wonka got afraid and when Violet started turning violet and blew up into a gigantic blueberry.
ALICE: Then who went next?
HATTIE: Veruca Salt.
THE MAD HATTER: So what happen to her?
HATTIE: Well Wonka was showing them the nut room which was filled with squirrels unshelling nuts and Veruca wanted one and asked her father to buy one for her and Wonka told them that they aren't for sale and that made Veruca mad. So than she decided to go down and get one herself and than before they knew it the squirrels started to attack her and threw her down the garbage chute where all the bad nuts go. Than a few minutes later they were in the television room and Mike Teavee asked Wonka if it was possible to send a human through television. Wonka told him that he didn't think it was possible but like the other kids Mike ignored Wonka's warning and was zapped by Wonkavision and was sent to a TV set on the opposite side of the room and was about 2 inches high. Then of course the last kid left was Charlie Bucket.
THE MAD HATTER: That was a great story.
HATTIE: Thanks Hatter. It's a true story too.
THE MARCH HARE: True story? What does that mean?
HATTIE: (as she smacks her right hand to her forehead) Meaning that it really happened. By the way weren't listening to the story, Hare?
THE MARCH HARE: Yeah I was and your point is?
HATTIE: I said at the beginning that it happened about six years ago.
THE MARCH HARE: Right I forgot about that.
A few minutes later Alice and Hattie said good-bye to Hatter and Hare. As the two girls were walking off Hatter grabbed Hattie's arm and pulled her closer to him.
THE MAD HATTER: (as he has his left arm behind her back and his right hand holding on to her left arm) I hope I get to see you again sometime.
HATTIE: (blushes) You can count on it.
Before she left she gave The Mad Hatter a hug and he returned the hug. Now the two girls are walking away from Hatter's house. As the two girls are walking Alice is talking to Hattie about what Hatter did.
ALICE: What was with what Hatter did before we left earlier?
HATTIE: What are you talking about?
ALICE: I mean why did Hatter have you in his arms like he did and said that he hoped to see you again sometime? And I noticed you blushing and said 'You can count on it.'
HATTIE: Oh that.
ALICE: Yeah. Why did he do that?
HATTIE: I'm not sure why he did that but why I did what I did is because and please don't tell anyone this especially Hatter is that I'm in love with him.
ALICE: You're in love with him?
HATTIE: Yes, yes I am.
ALICE: How did you know you were in love with him when you first met him?
HATTIE: Well when I first saw him it was like we were the only two people here in Wonderland.
ALICE: I heard that only happens with true love.
HATTIE: I heard that too.
~Meanwhile back with Hatter and Hare~
THE MARCH HARE: Say, Hatter what was with what you did to Hattie before she and Alice left earlier?
THE MAD HATTER: What are you talking about?
THE MARCH HARE: I mean why did you have you in your arms like you did and said that you hoped to see her again sometime?
THE MAD HATTER: Oh that.
THE MARCH HARE: Yeah. Why did you do that?
THE MAD HATTER: Well the truth is I'm in love with her.
THE MARCH HARE: You're in love with her?
THE MAD HATTER: Yes I am.
THE MARCH HARE: What made you fall in love with her?
THE MAD HATTER: Well for one she is the most beautiful girl that I have ever seen in my whole entire life. And I have seen a lot of girls but none are more beautiful than Hattie.
THE MARCH HARE: How did you know you were in love with her when you first saw her?
THE MAD HATTER: Well when I first saw her it was like we were the only two people here in Wonderland.
THE MARCH HARE: I heard that only happens with true love.
THE MAD HATTER: How true that is.
~Meanwhile back with the girls~
HATTIE: Now where are you taking me Alice?
ALICE: To meet my friend Mr. Caterpillar.
Now the two girls are in a Mushroom Forest where The Caterpillar was at.
ALICE: Hi, Mr. Caterpillar.
CATERPILLAR: Hello, Alice. Who's your friend?
ALICE: This is my best friend Hattie Wonka.
CATERPILLAR: Please to meet you Hattie.
HATTIE: Nice to meet you too, Caterpillar.
CATERPILLAR: So Hattie, I understand you have an older brother who's a candyman is that correct?
HATTIE: Why yes it is? How did you know?
CATERPILLAR: The White Rabbit told me on his way to the palace.
HATTIE: Man, word travels fast here in Wonderland.
A few minutes later the girls said good-bye to The Caterpillar and then they met the Tweedles.
ALICE: There are my friends Tweedle Dee and his brother Tweedle Dum. (to the Tweedles) Hi, Tweedles.
TWEEDLE DEE: Hi, Alice.
TWEEDLE DUM: Hi, Alice.
THE TWEEDLES: Who's your friend?
ALICE: This is my best friend, Hattie Wonka.
TWEEDLE DUM: Nice to meet you Hattie. I'm Tweedle Dum.
TWEEDLE DEE: Yes, nice to meet you Hattie. I'm Tweedle Dee.
HATTIE: Nice to meet you two too. I have two older brothers. One of them is the legendary candyman Willy Wonka.
TWEEDLE DEE: I'm afraid we never heard of him.
HATTIE: Why am I not surprised?
TWEEDLE DUM: So Hattie what brings you to Wonderland?
HATTIE: I came here with Alice.
ALICE: That's right. I brought her here because she told me that she has never been to Wonderland.
HATTIE: Well this Wonderland anyways.
ALICE: What do you mean?
THE TWEEDLES: Yes what do you mean?
HATTIE: Well this Wonderland is a lot different than my brothers Wonderland.
ALICE: Your brothers Wonderland?
HATTIE: Yes he has a chocolate room in his factory that I like to call a Chocolatey Candy Wonderland. You can eat everything in Wonka's Chocolate Wonderland. Because everything his eatible, I mean edible. Even the grass in there is edible. But the chocolate river is not suppose to be touched by human hands. But one day a kid from Germany was drinking from the Chocolate river and he fell in.
~Meanwhile at the palace~
The Red Queen has just finished reading one of her books and went to go get another one and noticed that there weren't any more books.
THE RED QUEEN: I'm all out of books. Where is that Rabbit with my books? He should've been here by now?
Just then Alice walked in with Hattie.
ALICE: Hi, your majesty.
THE RED QUEEN: Hi, Alice. Who is this?
HATTIE: I'm Hattie Wonka. I'm Alice's best friend, your majesty.
THE RED QUEEN: Well any friend of Alice's is a friend of mine. Welcome to Wonderland, Hattie.
HATTIE: Thank you, your majesty.
Before they knew it The Cheshire Cat appeared out of nowhere.
THE CHESHIRE CAT: Are you going to introduce me to your friend Alice?
ALICE: Mr. Cat this is my best friend Hattie Wonka. Hattie this is The Cheshire Cat.
HATTIE: I didn't know cats could smile.
THE CHESHIRE CAT: So I'm the first cat you met that can smile?
HATTIE: Yes you are. It's nice to meet you Cat.
THE CHESHIRE CAT: It's nice to meet you too.
Soon as The Cheshire Cat disappeared The White Rabbit rolled into the palace carrying that stack of books.
THE WHITE RABBIT: (as he put the books he was carrying into a basket on the left side of The Red Queen's throne) I see you met Alice's friend your majesty.
THE RED QUEEN: Yes I have.
THE WHITE RABBIT: Did she tell you about her brother?
THE RED QUEEN: Her brother? What brother?
HATTIE: Oh, my brother the candyman. In fact he's the legendary candyman Willy Wonka.
THE RED QUEEN: Your brother is a candyman?
HATTIE: Yes, yes he is, your majesty.
THE RED QUEEN: It must be great to have a brother who is a candyman.
HATTIE: Why is that your majesty?
THE RED QUEEN: Than you get to have all the candy you want.
HATTIE: Well I guess that is so, but to much of a good thing is bad for you.
Just than it was time for the girls to go back home.
ALICE: Hattie it's time we got back.
HATTIE: Do I have to go back?
ALICE: Don't you want to go back?
HATTIE: Not really no.
THE RED QUEEN: Why don't you want to go back?
HATTIE: Uh, I'll explain later your majesty. I promise.
THE WHITE RABBIT: Don't your parents want you home?
HATTIE: Actually my parents along with both my older brothers are on a long business trip and they told me that I could stay with Alice until they return. But after coming here I don't think I want to leave Wonderland now.
THE RED QUEEN: Well you are welcome to stay here as long as you want, Hattie.
HATTIE: Thank you, your majesty.
Hattie said good-bye to Alice and took off to go see The Mad Hatter. After Hattie left Alice went back home and a few minutes later she stepped through her mirror.
ALICE: Hi, Dinah.
Dinah meows.
ALICE: I know I left here with Hattie but once she got there she wanted to stay there. Now I know what I'm going to right in my story.
Alice sat down on her bed and started writing her story.
