Hopes of Whitney Houston making a triumphant return to the British stage went down like a lead baloon when she was booed in Birmingham. The Queen of the Night was jeered after lengthy costume changes in her first show on British soil for 11 years. "I could hear you getting pissed off." Houston admitted after one 15-minute break inside the LG arena. Further problems with her microfone left fans fuming and demanding a refund on their tickets that cost up to £100. One miserable fan from Huddersfield said: "I was waiting for the Trading Standarts guys to call a halt and offer us our money back. It was a con, a rip-off. It wasn't a concert." Another complained the US diva was happy to do things at her own slow pace. "She kept the crowd waiting for ages after every song and all she did was talk to stop her from having to sing. I was so looking forward to it but appeared to have wasted £180." Emerging in a white trouser suit, the singer was determined to get her two-hour comeback off to a good start, telling her 11,500 fans: "I'm feeling pretty good myself, thank you so much for asking." But by her second song she had already hit a glitch. "My head mic broke...but I always have a spare," she said, as a techinician raced about her. Angry fans posted recordings of Whitney's ropey rendition of her I Will Always Love You on YouTube. Her latest disaster comes after the 46-year-old postponed three shows at the start of the tour to recover from illness.

That's too bad I really like Whitney! I guess she's just having a hard time.
